Ramie is a plant of the nettle family which due to the quality of its fibres, is an attractive addition to traditional threads used in shoemaking, such as linen (made from flax) or hemp thread.

It has very good tensile strength and silky long fibres for attaching bristles.

Crisp white colour makes it a good choice for contrast stitching work.
