Edge & Bottom Finishes
Edge & Bottom Finishes
Black, Brown and “Natural Leather” Stain brewed in London workshop in small quantity.
Solution made according to method printed in the Golden Era of hand shoemaking, recreating finishes gone out of use with the development of industrialised processes.
Different from modern ‘quick black’ inks using pigment, these stains are made transparent using dye, allowing the grain of the leather to come through.
Sold by the unit.
New:
Size of pot increased by 50% to 190mL
Use of formaldehyde has been discontinued for a safer alternative.
Recommended use:
The stain should be applied once you have sanded the heels and edges.
Apply 2 -3 coats with a soft flat bristle brush, or sponge, of good quality.
The stain will appear slightly matt at this stage, due to the gum content.
Now burnish with a warm iron the heel and edges.
The stain will have become dark and should confer a sharp edge with a smooth surface shine from the gum.
This can be further enhanced with a coat of matching shoe polish, to be burnished in.
For Bottom Finish, simply apply one coat with a sponge, whipping off excess.
Allow to dry and sand gently with a super fine sanding sponge to remove any streaks.
Finally buff to shine with a cloth.
