In likelihood printed in the 1920s-30s before the later incorporation of the company as Darrigol & Gagnez in 1932, confirmed by the later addition of the stamp on the front page.
It seems this treasured catalog was in use for a number of decades as the notes for an order to Monsieur Sublin bear the date 1963.
More than a tool catalogue, this is an almost encyclopaedic quality document detailing the full range of shoemaking tools in production in France during the 20th century.
It highlights the now forgotten differentiation of single lip irons for mens’ work and double lip for ladies’, the full range of French and English awls in use with life-size illustration and categorisation according to use, rarely found channel opener patterns, the sale of oxalic acid as a workshop sundry to the making of stains in house, and much more.
