Antique Lastmaker's Stock Knife by French manufacture Potiron & Guimard.
The taillanderie Potron & Guimard was located in the village of Le Loroux-Bottereau, near the city of Nantes in the west of France.
The stock knife is hooked to a work-top and its tip used as a leverage axis.
It is used to reduce bulk (‘stock’) on a last to transform the rough last to a more refined shape before finishing with the rasp.

Blade free of rust, sharp and honed for use.
Beautiful hand carved and turned handle,
fully treated against wood worm and oiled.
Broken in two sections in the past, it has been professionally renovated by a carpenter and re-enforced by internal grafting.
