Leather Splitting Machine
Leather Splitting Machine
Rare antique Leather Splitting Machine of French manufacture.
Possibly Kremp-Lutz Paris, dating late 19th/ early 20th century.
Designed to split leathers down to required thickness. Ideal for reducing welts, fine trimming stiffeners and such applications. Also widely used in leather craft and saddlery work.
Desired thickness is set by adjustable locking bracket set on a ring. The leather is placed under the blade. The lever is then pulled back, raising the roller against the blade and the piece of leather pulled through to be trimmed.
The roller can also be raised manually by two actioning screws. It can be set parallel or asymmetrically to blade to achieve bevelled cuts.
Machine composed of cast iron, steel and brass parts. In exceptional condition with all original parts. This machine is likely in factory finish as the blade has never been sharpened until present.
Small welding repair to one of the transversal bars (see photo)
Entirely dis-assembled, cleaned and polished.
All rollers and mechanics oiled.
The blade sharpened and honed to a very fine edge, calibrated and tested for use.
