Leather Splitting Machine by British United Shoe Machinery & Co
Rare antique Leather Splitting Machine by manufacture The British United Shoe Machinery & Co ltd, also referred to as BUSMC
Designed to split leathers precisely down to required thickness, to the half or quarter milimetre. Ideal for reducing welts, fine trimming stiffeners and such applications. Also widely used in leather craft and saddlery work.
Desired thickness is set by twisting the lever clockwise or counter-clockwise, which moves the roller up or down. Thickness is indicated on a graduated ring, numbered 1 to 5.
The roller is then lifted back from the other end of the arm to place leather under the blade.
The roller is sprung back in place, raising the leather against the blade and the piece of leather pulled through to be trimmed.
Stamped: The British United Shoe Machinery & Co ltd n.1804 (on brass plate)
and 1804 again on base with the BUSMC “winged boot” logo emblazoned to the cast steel base
