Antique ‘dot’ pattern wheel by an English maker.
In likelihood produced around 1850s, the tool appears almost entirely hand made. The wheel is hand cut and has been riveted by hand to the arm. The walnut handle which has been spun on a lathe, has then been shaped to sit perfectly in the palm of the hand during use.
This comes as part of a shoemaker’s kit, of which all items dated to the mid 19th century.
The wheel should create a slightly irregular mark to give a unique finish. It is undamaged with all its teeth.
A unique and very old shoemaking tool, still suited to use.
